Karla Electron Tubes is a brand of vacuum tube used throughout Rapture Central Computing in Minerva's Den.
Minerva's Den[]
- Main article: Minerva's Den
These electron tubes were crucial to the functioning of the computing banks of The Thinker, ranging from enforcing direction of current flow to amplifying it. However the fragile glass construction meant that they had to be frequently replaced in face of the skirmishes from the Rapture Civil War, or simple Splicer violence.

Behind the Scenes[]
- The name "Karla" is inspired by the name of BioShock 2 and Minerva's Den developer Karla Zimonja.[1] She is also referenced in BioShock 2 as a possible name for a Security Bot.
- Like the numerous punchcard machines, vacuum tubes fit with the period of computing technology available to Rapture. Today, they have been largely supplanted by the relatively lightweight transistor and further Integrated Circuits.
