During Burial at Sea - Episode 2, the player can see the mechanics of lockpicking as, similar to hacking in previous BioShock games, the experience becomes a mini-game. Lockpicking can be used to unlock doors and safes and to disable turrets, but only if the player has the required amount of lockpicks. Elizabeth can acquire Noisemaker Bolts by striking a blue pin during the lockpicking sequence which can be useful later. However, blue pins are often flanked by red alarm pins, making it risky to attempt a blue pin strike.
