A Pay-phone is a type of Vending Machine found in Rapture. In a time before mobile phone technology, these devices helped the people of Rapture keep in communication across the underwater city with ease. Pay-phones are usually located in public places like malls, shops, and bars.

The distinctive bright red Pay-phone is found throughout Rapture, featured in BioShock and BioShock 2. These public phones were assembled and installed early in Rapture's history in 1948. The player can interact with the Pay-phones in BioShock (the rotary is heard spinning) and shooting/hitting a Pay-phone in BioShock 2 will cause a brief ringing sound, but they have no functional use in either game.

In Burial at Sea - Episode 1, Pay-Phones take the form of phone booths found on High Street and in Fontaine's Department Store. These phones offered citizens comfort and privacy, with a built-in seat and sliding door.
