Silas Bantam is a citizen of Rapture and was the owner of the Gift Shop in Ryan Amusements. He was displeased that he couldn't sell anything for more than it took to produce it, leaving him with no profit. He accepted a deal with Augustus Sinclair to have his merchandise made cheaply by underpaid laborers in Pauper's Drop, and began making a large profit as a result. His only complaint was that he occasionally had to pick "hypodermic needles" out of the shipments.[1]
