Rapture Inhabitants Edit

I would really appreciate it if you would please not add the Rapture Inhabitants page to each character in the BioShock series. The article is unnecessary as is and, frankly, I think it should be deleted as the information covered on it is discussed on other pages such as the Rapture Civil War, Rapture Storyline, and Splicer pages. All the information on the Rapture Inhabitants page is already on the BioShock Characters, BioShock 2 Characters, and BioShock 2 Multiplayer Characters pages, so it's doubly useless.

Rather than just undoing ALL of your edits and get into a lengthy edit/re-edit encounter, I'd rather you and I discuss this first and get your OK.

I quess the porpose was to show the state of the person ( if they where Splicers, dead, Big Daddy etc) but then again you can see all that from the persons "page". I was also a  bit confused about this, as you can see in the talk section on Rapture Inhabitants.

Yeah, but thanks for trying to rein it in on the Talk Page. As you said it is best to restrict that info to the citizen's articles. I think the Inhabitants page is going to reorganized to be more about the society as a whole than the individual people since that info is all ready under the "Characters" pages.

It's a hell holeEdit

Look at our wikia : it's a hell hole. Although lots of people contributes many informations about BaS 2. But some of them puts every information about BaS 2 in every wikia page about Bioshock 1,2. I know it's a multiverse and BaS 2 is connected with Bioshock 1, but it's a rash action. Furthermore, a few stubborn people are trying to put 'wrong' & 'baseless' informations to page. When I undid that page, they repeat the same thing!

Honestly, I'm waiting for things to settle because I don't want to loose my temper on rectifying each and every edits anons and other users see fit to make. However I have something else to occupy myself: I got my hand on the localization texts of BioShock 2. That means I can finally add all the removed diaries and radio messages I could previously only access in any other languages other than English. I understand, but I think the worst of "A Wikia contributor" is starting to end but there's still really annoying posts every day. In my opinion the pages that has been most "Edited wrongly" is: ElizabethSally and Burial at Sea - Episode 2, People that wont accept that Elizabeth is dead and adding the picture of a little sister getting married from the end of Bio1 to Sally.

Those People who denied the Canon of Series (Both Bioshock 1 and BaSE2 is 100% Canon and very Connected to Bioshock 1) are likely Strong Sign of Fan Discontinuity and it Mainly due *Spolier* Elizabeth give Atlas the code to get Jack into Rapture was Obvious Plot Point for Series. Chad Robert (Talk) 19:57, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

I think it's safe to class them under "Burial at Sea Concept Arts" since the second episode reuses assets from the first. Usually I separate both episodes when it comes to categorize pages, but since weapons and Plasmids/Virgors are relatively the same in both episodes, regrouping them isn't a problem. Re: Abuse Log Edit

Apologies for that. The abuse log was created before my time as admin, and I'm not as familiar with the code as I should be. What usually brings it up in cases like this is when you edit in RTE (the default editing layout) and use a macro that messes up the underlying source code. If you want to be absolutely sure that this doesn't happen, I recommend you go to My Preferences -> Editing and under "Preferred editor" select "Source editor", which will show you the source code. It may take some getting used to, but it's ultimately a far better way of editing, since you have more control over how you want to modify the layout.

Splicer Appearance Edit

Saw your edit on the Jacob Norris page. I made the "Appearance" sections on the Splicer pages for BioShock. I'm currently working on the same for BioShock 2 (annoyingly, the characters don't actually stop moving when you freeze the game with Console Commands in Bio2, so it's taking a while to capture them in just the perfect pose). I'd be happy to help you work on an Appearance section for the BioShock 2 Multiplayer characters when I finish with the normal Splicers.

That would be great, thank you! I think we still need to figure out how we are going to format this and it really hard to find images of the Multiplaer characters, especially when they are Spliced. But I looked on the Danish BioShock page and found almost everyone of the characters non-spliced model (except for Blanche and Zigo). so that will help (here's the link)

For the format, i'd like to do something simulare to what you have done to the other Splicer models.

Presenting the Rapture Citizen Edit

You won't believe what I found.  

I've just made it to Outer Persephone on BioShock 2 on my Mac. I've been using the Console Commands to fly around, take screen shots, and pause the game (that's how I was able to get that image of Sofia Lamb). I was observing the models in the Little Sister dream world, the "Partygoers" as we've all been calling them. Later, after completing the mission and getting Eleanor Lamb her Big Sister suit, I returned to the "fever dream" area. To my surprise, she teleported in and walked around with me. Then to my horror/amusement she started mercilessly attacking the Partyogers.

Now here's the really interesting thing, they exhibit the characteristics of Splicers. When she attacks them, they go all rag doll. When you check their bodies, they sometimes have loot on them. Most exciting: they're named. When I approached them, they're labeled "Rapture Citizen."


With all this new information, I'm going to add a page for them as a Splicer model and add some pictures of them.

Hey, LtWheat here. Just wanted to ping you quick about some of the last few changes to the Bugs/Glitches section on the Blue Ribbon Challenges page. I was the original author of the one about Wave 15 on Emporia Arcade, but that was before I made an account. Good to see someone came up with an explanation. I'll see if I can get some footage; this glitch happened to me the very first time I played this wave so hopefully it won't be too hard to get it to activate again.

Also I was playing on Raven's Dome last night and ran into a weird glitch where the enemies wouldn't attack me. I recorded it and will post it/write about it later.

Originally, I wasn't a fan of the idea of having articles devoted to small topics like masks, sports, or the news, but after thinking about it, I think each of these pages have turned out pretty well.

The { {Main|game} } Edit

Someone correctly pointed out much earlier that it's technically against the syle guideline to include a link in the "Heading 2" text size. Usually main sections (like History, Game Titles, Maps, New Discoveries, etc.) are in the "Heading 2" size in Source Mode. Instead of adding the link right there, we add the link to the game using the { {Main|game} } template so that we abide by the policy.

However, we have a little wiggle room with this guideline. For example, on the Welcome to Rapture article, you'll notice that stuff under the "Heading 3" or higher size (like the Bathysphere Station, Kashmir Restaurant, Transit Hub, or Footlight Theater) are linked to their respective pages. Hope this answers your question.

A while ago, I talked about the rankings from Bioshock 2 Multiplayer being possibly put into some kind of timeline? He's really a minor character, I didn't even know he excisted untill this wikia constriber made the page: The only info about him is in the tear in Bank of the Prophet (the one Lady Comestock sends you to find.) Hes the one that told Fink to have the Lutece's killed by order from Comestock.

The Hamilton Edit

The Hamilton is a building in Town Square (or whatever that area with the King Pawn is called) of Pauper's Drop. I've been working on making a page for that part of the district. I think that anything that could be said about the Hamilton could go on that page rather than making an individual one for the Hamilton.

Its the two bridges on the second floor leading to the elevator. On that picture it is some kind of white structure. While in game, it is a red/brown structure holding up some plants. See the post card image, its quite clear there.

Ah, now I see what you mean. After going back and revisiting the level it's clear that the final bridge is a metalwork walkway while the one in the original image is lined with stone walls. Excellent catch Shacob.

Multiplayer Images Edit

Animal Images Edit

I'm both very pleased and slightly revolted by the animal test subjects you added. I'm glad we have these images, but there's just something so heartbreaking about seeing a dog (even a cgi dog) in pain like that. Can you share your source where you found them?

Yes dead animals, in particular dogs, make me really uncomfortable (as well as this). Of course, they both are from Peter Anderson's portfolio: http://peter-anderson.blogspot.fi/ and so is the "Voxy Lady". I always tend to add the source in the image description but that I get is easy to miss ;)

Holy Hell! What an amazing find! This sheds a whole new light on Brigid Tenenbaum, I'm so glad you found this. At the same time, I'm wondering why are we only hearing about this now? Why do you think there wasn't even the slightest hint of her autism in the game? Both of the articles you found are from April 2015. I can't help but wonder why he never mentioned this sooner. Do you think this is a bit of retconning character into her? The cynical side of me says yes, but Levine doesn't (fully) strike me as the person who'd do that. Your thoughts?

Holy Hell, "tease" is right! And that Twitter post! What does that even mean!? Is Brigid Tenenbaum a descendant of the Luteces? Seems unlikely. First there was "Rapture Prime," now this. Oy! And while I truly do appreciate positive and powerful representations of Autistic figures, I still take issue with there being no precursor to this in the game. I suppose one could say that young Tenenbaum was sent to the camps for her Autism, but I always thought it was because of her Jewish heritage or her Balarusian citizenship.
I'm just saying, it wouldn't surprise me if next year we learn that Julie Langford is Catholic, Bill McDonagh lost a little brother to WWII, or Yi Suchong has a hatred of schnauzers because of a childhood dog bite.

Re: Minerva's Den Splicer Images Edit

Offensive Linemen

That was very kind of you to compile those Splicer images. I'd always wanted to compose a collection for Heady and Buttons but had long abandoned any hope that I'd get to thanks to Minerva's Den not being available for Mac. I'd be happy to make an Appearance image of these characters after I complete the ones for BioShock 2 (I swear I'm almost done!).

Beggars should not be choosers, and I really don't wish to sound ungrateful, but I have a few recommendations. From your link (http://imgur.com/a/ShRs9), let me just say that images 2, 5, 10, 14, and 23 are excellently lit. I can tell that somehow you were able to implement the Console Commands PlayersOnly and ToggleHUD to get these images, so can you lure these Splicers to a well-lit area, freeze them in place, and retake the shots? Also, notice how in the image to the right, the camera is zoomed in enough that the top of the Splicer's head and the bottom of their feet totally fill the frame.


This will ensure that the viewer can see all the details that go into the models' outfit and appearance. Also, since you seem to have control over this, it'll be up to you to capture all the different model iterations. Buttons has at least 3 models and Heady has at least 2, but are there more? I know Heady has several different hairstyles available and Buttons can wear glasses so if you can get examples of these different accessories that'd be superb.

I'm very happy to hear that. If I may add to my seemingly unending list of demands, see if you can turn Shadow Mapping off in your menu options. That'll eliminate the shadows on the floor and perhaps on the model itself. You're right about the Heady's hair, but it seems like the outfits in image 14 & 15 have different colorations, though this might just be a trick of the light.
A lot of your images are in a very interesting resolution ratio: 1152 × 864. I've never seen that configuration before. It's absolutely wonderful if you can manuever the models so that they're in front of an interesting or significant background, though this is, of course, not required. It's the lighting and the model that matter most. Good luck with your photos

Regardless of how you're getting them, I'm just stoked and grateful that we're finally able to get recurring images from Minerva's Den. I adore JLBiggs and his GORGEOUS images, but oftentimes his aesthetic leans more towards the artistic than what this site really needs. He's often captured the open loneliness of Minerva's Den, but it's only been very recently that he's posted individual, well-lit pictures of specific Splicers from that game.
I certainly don't mean to bash him. He's been a generous supporter of the series, this site, and the contributors on it. It's just that his goals are separate from ours and he has a tall order of fans asking him for different shots from different games. It's nice that we have you to get some of these images that we need instead. Take all the time you need.

I would have finished the Appearance section for the BioShock 2 Splicers half a year ago if I were happy with simply getting the figures in frame, but like you said, we should never be happy with second best. Our beloved site calls for better, and so too do our own artistic standards. Take months, take years, I'm not going anywhere.
That's really awesome that you'll be getting an even better computer. The resolution will undoubtedly look great. Interestingly, I was thinking about possible title names for the final images for Buttons and Heady. I haven't come up with much for the Headys, so far only "Working Girls" and "Headcases" (the latter of which seems too obvious). For the Buttons, I've thought of "Nerd Herd," "Geek Squad," and "Hack Pack." If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

For Nina Carnegie's inspiration, I'm sure we'll find something out. Finding Diane McClintock was a total fluke on my part, but I'm more convinced than ever that many diary portraits came from mugshots. I vaguely recall hearing that the developers got a hold of a old, book of mid-century mugshot photos from a trash can at a police precinct that was schedule for demolition, or something. If this is true, then we'll likely never see the sources as I doubt any of them were posted online. But for Bio2, it's a possibility. I'd post the image if I were you, it was your find.
On a tangentially related note, take a look at this website I came across: Small Town Noir. I haven't come across anyone from the BioShock series, but mugshots, back when people bothered to dress up, have an interesting beauty about them.

Prisoner imageEdit

Hey. I noticed you added that concept of that prisoner in the Merged article. Well, its not really from that concept, but for a completely different scrapped enemy concept. They don't have a name, but in the Art of BioShock Infinite, they're scrapped ideas for enemies that are conceptually suppose to grow 9 feet after they eat a corpse(there's also concept art of a child and a Brute-like guy that are a part of this scrapped concept). Why? At the time,  developers were trying to figure out what kind of enemies to add in the game, and they were very loose on quantum mechanics being too much like BS1's genetic manipulation, that they tried to make earlier enemies work their abilities like that, which was why it was later scrapped(especially when a lot of it has nothing to do with the finished game's revision of its quantum mechanics ). I doubt any of these made it passed the concept art(in the same way those fish mutants in BS1 didn't go any further from the concept art). Thanks for your input. Regarding the Office Conflict Splicers, I think that actually is a Scripted Event for Minerva's Den. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in every time that event occurs, doesn't a Buttons model get blasted away by a Heady? If that's the case, then those models are specifically chosen to fill those roles. That consistency indicates that it is a "Scripted Event."

Compare that event with the Splicer battle from the Southern Mall. It's always a Houdini Splicer vs two Thuggish Splicers, but sometimes the Houdini is a Baby Jane while the Thuggish are Toastys or vice versa or it's three of the same model or some other combination like what's pictured. You see what I mean? It's that sort of randomness that separates a "Scripted Event" from an ordinary set up. Hope this helps.

Judaism in BioShock Edit

I just read the Faith In Rapture – Ken Levine Shares Thoughts On Creating Authentic Diversity article you found. This is perhaps one of the most crucial and revealing pieces of information ever found about BioShock.

I am both thrilled and delighted that you've shared this with us, yet at the same time I'm confused and a little disappointed. The more I learn about Ken Levine, the more my attitude towards him has shifted wildly from good, to bad, and back to some happy medium. I respect the man, and am very appreciative for him gifting BioShock to the world. Still though, I have the following lingering feelings:


1) Why has it taken THIS LONG for this info to be revealed? Levine holds stuff back. That's fine, I'm glad to not have all the answers delivered in one fell swoop. However, it's been YEARS now. His coyness often reaches exasperating levels of annoyance.

What strikes me is that HE was the one that brought this up out of nowhere. Mike Futter posited about the number of Jewish characters in video games. He didn't directly ask Levine "who's Jewidh in Rapture?" Rather, Levine sought to answer Futter's question with little provocation. It's as if he'd wanted to tell the world this for years, got tired of waiting, and figured this was the best set up he was going to get to get.


2) Why wasn't this brought up IN THE GAME? This would've been seriously interesting, but Judaism is NEVER directly referenced anywhere. Why not have a Siddur prayer book (or a menorah) along with all of those confiscated Bibles in Neptune's Bounty?

Frankly, I find it a little prejudiced on Levine's part if we were just expected to assume all this stuff based on stereotypes. The Nazis sent all sorts of people to camps, how were we supposed to know it was b/c Brigid Tenenbaum was Jewish? Her family could've been Gypsy, associated with an opposing political party, Catholic, handicapped, or any other number of likely things. Were we supposed to guess Steinman and the Lutz's religion by their names? Sure, "Cohen" is a VERY Jewish name, but that doesn't mean a person, or their parents, practiced the religion, even in 20th Century America.


3) Why weren't these themes explored more in the game. The Steinman story makes so much sense! I only wish that theme had even been hinted at in the game, so that we could have made the connection ourselves rather than relying on Levine to straight up tell us after the fact. There can't be subtext with no text at all.

Whatsmore, the only hint of religion being something to be wary of come in the form of an anti-Christianity bent. From the anti-Catholic attitudes expressed by Ducky, to zealotry of Waders, and the warning against "the man in the Vatican" from the movie in the Bathysphere, Levine explores anti-Christian attitudes way more than any anti-Jewish sentiment (despite there being plenty of it in mid-20th Century America).


Sorry for going off on a tangent like that. Seriously, I'm very, very glad you found and shared this info with the site. I love it when we finally get some evidence to back up theories and expand backgrounds

There is no need to be checked category yet.
I want to point out that my goal is to not-have mass categories. If there are a couple of images (like 5+) than they can get a seperate category. But they get a seperate category even there are less than 5 of them if they represent their own part of Columbia/Rapture (eg. a character, a shop, a weapon, a place, ... ). I would also prefer to so sort out categories like Category:Soldier's Field Images to their own level sub-districts to keep them well organised. A key to sort out all images is that ALL of them land in one category so none can be missed.
I have started sorting out Category:BioShock Infinite Character Images, Category:BioShock Infinite Weapon Images and Category:BioShock Infinite Enemy Images for some examples.

Yes, each and every file should be added to Category:Unprocessed Files‎. Images, audio files and (if there are some) videos - I know that there would be ~10'000 files in the category. All files should be moved, because it's not only about the images not using {{Information}}. It's also about moving them into a proper category and may replace or just delete them if tagged so. Some images I found on the wiki did not have any category at all - I'm sure some of them still don't! All the low quality images could be replaced and all the bad images which are tagged as to be deleted could be deleted.

I was just wondering about what you said in reference to the (Multiplayer only) in the Rapture Metro page. I understand what you mean about canon but im just confused now about the Rapture Businesses page, As the Cabins of Arcadia in the Arcadia section have also been marked (Burial at Sea only). Is this fine for the business page or should it be changed to a reference?

Hmm, the Pile of money and Jewelry seems to be an odd one. There are ugly gray/blueish shards around it for some reason. The same happened with a model of Karla Electron Tubes, and I'm not sure how to change/fix that. I will look in to that one later. Also, I can't find any of the mats. The baby carriage has an annoying effect that I can't remove with photoshopping, so I need to model it with another program, but that takes a while because I'm not very proficient with it. I like your theory a lot! It definitely looks like they were remodelled or cut from the game altogether. I've taken a look at the unused radio messages from Outer/Inner Persephone, but I don't see them being mentioned anywhere. It's been a while since I've mentioned it, and this seems as opportune a time as any: thanks and well done on all the information you've added, the minor fixes you've done, and the wonderful concept art images uncovered. It's always appreciated.

As for Baby Jane, there are only 4 models in BioShock. Please understand that when I say I conducted an exhaustive search while making the Appearance sections, I say it not to make myself or my efforts sound important, but rather as a statement of fact. I believe the model you saw in Worley Winery is #3 on the image to the right. Her dress is covered in red (which I assume is blood stains, though who can say for sure), but if you look at different spots such as near the armpits and around the trim of the collar and cuffs, you'll see the patches of green.

I'm ashamed to say it, but the pictures I took in the Chorus Line image were taken at slightly less than perfect settings. I was midway through the project when I realized I could boost things like Real Time Reflection, High Detail Post Processing, High Detail Shaders, etc. to get the optimal image. I could't bring myself to retake the Baby Jane images after working so hard to showcase each outfit being worn by a different combat class of Splicer, in a different location. This combined with the pose that the Jane in the Smuggler's Hideout picture fails to adequately show off how red her outfit looks. If you come across this model again, use Telekinesis, and drag her beneath a light source so that you might compare her face with the one in the collage I made.

Also, regarding the Houdini Splicers, that's actually a fascinating mechanic that I've been wanting to discuss, but have never found the right place to do so. Houdinis teleport and when they reappear, a base model reappears first. If you look through each of the Appearance sections, you'll see that I list the first model as the "primary model;" that's no coincidence. It's because that's the model that appears for half a second no matter which model you're encountering. For example, take Lady Smith. Say you're fighting the model with the teal dress and that she's wearing the blonde hair piece and either a mask or the veil accessory. When she teleports back in, for a split second, she'll appear as the blue dress model with no hair piece at all and no accessory. Then, the game loads all those other cosmetic items over her. Most people never notice any of this, I only learned it using Console Commands to freeze the game second by second. So, yes, it's something of a glitch, but it's not just the Baby Janes are effected.

I was going back through my neglected responses, and I saw I never answered to the second part of your question. Regarding the Lady Smith, that's a picture I took and the reason why she's bald in that image is because The Saturnine cultist hurled a fireball at her and she was engulfed in flames; aka, her hairpiece had already burned away at that point. There are plenty of cases of Baby Jane and Lady Smith Corpses that don't have a hairpiece attached to them, but that appears deliberate (to make the body seem even more unnatural/shocking/disfigured). It's more than possible that a glitch could occur and a Houdini Splicer could reappear with its hair missing (that is, if it's a Jane or Smith model b/c they're the only ones with attachable hairpieces), but in my experience, it's very, VERY rare. The game's pretty well designed.

I was going back through some of the edits to the Rapture Businesses, and I saw you removed "Billy G" noting Billy G. is the inspiration for Top Card, so it doesn't count. I'm not sure if that's right b/c I've seen the crate label for Top Card Bartlett pears. To be honest, I've never seen an advertisement for either, but it seems that Billy G is more likely to be based off the Top Card crate label.

Edit to Musical Insult Edit

Seems we just passed each other :). I'm not sure which one of the interpretations would be 'correct', but 1 seems the most likely. Frankly, everything refers with a lot of words unspoken to Ryan's Songbird, but it very well could be something else she produced, except there is no shred of evidence (nor do we know what else she has produced). All we know is that she produced Ryan's Songbird sometime after the start of the Rapture Civil War, as it was not in stores by the time Rapture Records is visited by Booker and Elizabeth. This suggests, mostly because there's not much time between Burial at Sea and BioShock, that it would be her last album, and thus the one Cohen refers to. If I may but in. We know there was a lot of time between BaS and BS1. BaS Pt1 took place New Years Eve 1958 and BS1 sometime in 1960. So it was at least a whole year. As for why "Ryan's Songbird" wasn't in Rapture Records there could be a good reason for it. Cohen pulled some strings so it wouldn't be carried in the RR stores. Maybe Ryan ordered pulled for ALL stores. Yep, Ryan's Songbird is there. I think that it's a logical assumtion that Ryan's Songbird is that Cohen is talking about in Musical Insult. Musical Insult is from a time when Cohen was still at least somewhat sane, the record is from before the start of the Civil War and Ryan's Stableboy seems to be from before the war started as well. I suspect that Anna Culpepper probably didn't live ling after the start of the war since Ryan would have seen any opposition to him as treason after the start of the war. sm --Solarmech (talk) 16:16, November 19, 2016 (UTC)

Which version of BioShock: Rapture do you have use? Mine appears to differ from yours, which makes determining the chapter/page for a reference/citation difficult because users don't know which version was used. I could've guessed that this would be problematic, as BioShock: Rapture (Novel) lists the UK (mine) variant to have 32 pages than the one for the US (yours). Marking images for deletion Edit

Thanks for marking so many images for deletion (and for providing an edit summary with them)! I have just one note about it. I noticed that you sometimes mark images as a candidate for deletion when the image they are a duplicate of does not have a better name. Do you have reason to do so? Otherwise, would it be easier for me at least if you picked the image with the worst name of the pair, so I don't have to rename them later on. Atlas' Eye Color Edit

I was looking at the Recent Changes and saw your comment on Atlas' eye color. I was going to say it was the repurposed Waders model from BioShock who had brown eyes, but upon revisiting the Smuggler's Hideout and using Console Commands, I found that in fact even that model's eyes are blue.

I traced it back and that change was added by a random unregistered Wiki user 80.12.55.158 (sorry, I guess they're called Fandom users now) who made that single edit, gave no explanation why, and hasn't been back since. It's funny (and supremely annoying) how if we miss one incorrect edit, it just stays there and we start to believe it's accurate until months/years later.

Fontaine's Fake Family Edit

Hey Shacob,

Regarding your assertion on the 10th that the family portrait in Frank Fontaine's office in BioShock 2 is fake, that is a serious accusation and I implore you to share how you learned this. I always suspected it was unlikely; Fontaine did not have a real family and while I could see citizens bringing precious momentos like family photos with them when they migrated to Rapture a giant oil painting seems unlikely to fit in a Bathysphere. Please do share as this will eliminate a lot of questions.

More Mugshots Edit

Wonderful job noticing those mugshot connections. The source website that you found those images on is interesting. Most of the pics from there come from Small Town Noir, but I've been looking through and at least two of them (the mugshots of Anna Mae Craven and Ruth Swartz) aren't from STN. I wonder where they came from.

I've looked through and it doesn't look like any of the other mugshots from STN were used for portraits for BioShock 2 Audio Diaries, although it's possible I might have missed and the site frequently updates so I'll keep an eye out. In any case, good work!

Hmmm, that's tough. I really wish the Audio Diary portraits were larger, for multiple reasons. It's SO close, but I think not. When these mugshots are reused, the clothes and hair is often changed and the frown is usually changed to a smile, but the center portion (the eyes, nose, brow, and chin) usually aren't. The extra portrait (we'll call him Fobes) has the same chin, chin shadow, and Adam's Apple as Manley, but while Manley's nose is shaped the same way it's smaller than Fobes, Fobes' brow is higher above the eyes than Fobes', I think Fobes' ears are lower on his head than Manley's, and I think even the forehead is vaguely different. Anyway, I'm going to say no. It makes no sense to leave the chin and neck portion the same and change all the other details so much.
If you have any others you're questioning, let me know, I'd love to help and it's always best to get a second opinion. After how close this one is, I'm going to have to review the mugshots on Small Town Noir. I may have been to quick to dismiss them.

Businesses & Names Edit

Hey man, hope all is well. I saw your changes to the BioShock 2 Characters article and it reminded me of a conversation I had on this site years ago. I can't remember who I was discussing with (or what page it's located on), but we talked about the ambiguity of adding Mentioned Characters from business signs.

It's one thing to add characters discussed in conversations like Ms. Englert or seen on address plaques like Dr. Shyera as those are clearly citizens who lived and worked in Rapture. Unfortunately, I think it's another to add Marlene, Joe, J. Fischer, or anyone else listed on a marquee. One might think, of course, they must exist; for example Finley must be the owner of Finley's Eat-In Take-Out. At the same time, in the real world, people don't always name their business after themselves. What if Marlene's Flower Emporium is named in memory of the owner's beloved mother Marlene? What if the J. Fischer Gallery is named to honor a comrade who died in WWII, but always dreamed of having his art displayed? What if the name for Joe's Green Groceries was chosen at random to make the place (a front for an illegal Plasmid lab) seem more nondescript, AKA "Average Joe's?"

It might seem outlandish or far-fetched, but at the same time, we have no proof that the businesses are indeed named for real citizens. It's all just too vague which leads into speculation and where do we stop? For example, are we to assume there's a Fleet of Fleet Hall, a Grace of Grace Brand, or even a real Capt. Nemo?

Thanks for considering my suggestion. As for yours, I'm down for a section for actual people on the Character pages. Of the two you mentioned, I'd personally prefer "Historical Characters," but to Solarmech's point, these are not "characters." Then again, "personages" sounds weird, so we should work on this a little. I personally don't have a problem with Characters, but it may be worth considering.
As for the notion of a "Supporting Characters" header, I fear that would only confuse things even more. So currently we have Main, Major, Minor, Mentioned, and Removed. Main and Removed are obvious, and Mentioned is pretty clear as well. With Major and Minor, I've always seen it this way: Major characters include bosses with a unique or repurposed character model while Minor ones are people who only appear via Audio Diary entires, corpses, or minor adversaries. Technically, Pearl Porter should be a Minor character, but it was a bone of contention so I was willing to give it a pass. ALSO, one could make the argument that she does appear with a "unique" model b/c The Thinker replicates her personality in Rapture, so she appears via The Thinker.
To the point, what would the definition of a "Supporting Character" be? And even if we chose a separate word from "supporting" or added extra adjectives like with Solarmech's proposals of "Major Supporting Characters" or "Important Supporting Characters" wouldn't it only serve to muddy the definitions? Currently, I can't see the need, but I'm open to options.

Well, only thing other than Persona and Character I have come up with would be "Historic Personality". :( As for Important Supporting Characters, I think a good definition would be "A character who has importance in story, but does not actually appear in the game itself." They are usually dead, but don't have to be. They just need not to appear in person. Annabelle DeWitt is not an Important Supporting Character, but Sullivan would be. Yi Suchong in BS would be a ISC in BS and BaS Ep 1 as all we see of him are Audio Diaries, but he would be a Major Character in BaS Ep 2 since we see and interact with him. I too was thinking of doing one for Laura Zimmermann, she certainly is one of the most visible developers. If you do proceed with making the page (which would be greatly appreciated), I'd go with "Laura Zimmermann" as that's how she's actually credited in the games. We can include her full married name in the text of the article while still titling her page by her more well known name just like we do with Jasmine Jolene.

I think that'd be a good choice. I noticed that too, but I think the credits for Burial at Sea are tucked in with the BioShock Infinite Credits; there's also not a separate credits for Minerva's Den, the Challenge Rooms, or other Downloadable Content.
A page for voice actors may be something to consider, but the game developers should take precedence, at least for now. The designers made the game what it is and there's still so many who contributed so much yet we know so little about them on this site.
Also, as for the Facebook link, we can take it down (I have no problem with that nor do I have a strong urge to keep it), yet the argument can be made that the url to Tejerina's Facebook page is both a matter of public record and that it's no more a violation of privacy than it is to publicly share the link to Ken Levine's Twitter account on his page.

Huh, that's surprising. We can at least start by adding the credits to the Infinite page and then move them to a separate page if we want. At the same time, I doubt anyone would really mind if you created the Burial at Sea Credits page.
Your concerns do you credit, and I mirror your desire not to have these individuals bothered by spam/trolling. Still, the cynic in me is quick to point out that the kind of people who would do such a thing could just as easily cut out the middleman and go straight to Facebook to search for the designers. I'm reminded of something Mainframe98 brought up a while ago about how we should assume good faith in the people who visit here. While I remain very ambivalent/indifferent about the issue, the case could be made that a fan or a well-wisher could use the link to express their admiration for the work done on BioShock. Regardless, I'll support either decision.

Society in Rapture Edit

I saw your addition to the Society in Rapture article and wanted to discuss it. I think it's wonderful that the laissez faire market is addressed as a Reason for Emigration as it undoubtedly was a major contributor. Previously, it was obliquely referenced under the "Freedom from Fear" section, but it really does deserve its own section while the "FfF" should be more devoted to real fears of war, government, and atomic holocaust.

However, I do have some critiques I'd like to share so both of us can improve the page as a whole. First, I'd like to suggest we change the title to "Freedom of the Free Market" or "Freedom of the Market" or something similar. Currently, the first section stands out, the second two match, and the final one is different; by having the first three follow the "freedom" theme, we'll create a rhythmic flow which will cause the last section to have more impact.

Second, I'd like to recommend dropping the image associated with that section entirely. Further down the article is the BaSE1_Rapture_Citizen.jpg file which is not used elsewhere in the Wiki and depicts the same scene. The BaS1_Scripted_SIntimacy.png file is used on the High Street, Rapture Citizen, and Scripted Events (Burial at Sea) pages, so I think it's been used enough.

Lastly, I think the first two sentences in the ""Free Market" section are really well-written, but I'm wary of the examples afterwards. It just seems like a list of bad ideas. I'm not against listing specifics per se (I think it'd be useful to include the legalized prostitution), but I think the rest should be more generalized.

I'd love to work with you on this (and get your input on how the other sections could be rewritten to be better integrated with the "Market" section), so let me know what you think.

Argh, wish I had known that. Ok, BSI does not have any console commands, buuuut there is a program called Cheat Engine that basically does the same thing. Despite the name the program IS safe and I have been using it for screenshots on the Deviant Art account for some time now. Also I think this is the same program used by our good friend jlbiggs at Digital Frontiers. It's a bit hard to learn, but easy to use once you do. Cheat Engine has "tables" which is basically a listing of the info for a specific game. There are premade tables for BSI out there, but the site/forum that had them seems cannot find the page anymore. I'll look into uploading it someplace or e-mailing. Yeah, that's the page and the cheat table you need. :) Actually what I do up right now is after changing the Table's file type to "***.CT" all I need to do is double click on it and it automatically starts up Cheat Engine. RE: Updating the Wiki's Menu Edit

I've given this some thought, and I'm not sure how to pull that off. Looking at Help:Navigation, we're limited to 4 main tabs. That would give us a division of BioShock | BioShock 2 | BioShock Infinite | Community. The problem with this ordering is that compared to the current ordering, we no longer have a good place to put the items Rapture Universe, Other, which contains two BioShock related media not specifically bound to either BioShock or BioShock 2. While it looks like the other wikis, including us actually, have 6 tabs, we only have the ability to change 4 of them. The other two are the community tab provided by Wikia, and the explore tab.
If I understand you correctly, you suggested (among other things) to duplicate the sub tab 'other' under both the BioShock and BioShock 2 tab?
Meanwhile while writing this, I came up with another idea; Universe | Games | Other | Community . Universe can cover a lot of inter-game things, such as the cities, storylines, businesses and what-nots, Games can cover all the games and Other does all that does not fit in the other categories. The Community tab would remain untouched.

Something about a file Edit

Hi! Thank you for marking several files and videos for deletion, I've just gotten to cleaning them up now. I noticed that you've marked File:1959.jpg for deletion, but the replacement File:BioShock Rapture Novel Cover Art.jpg is in a lower resolution. Thing is, that file has a proper source, where the resolution of that source file (the one on the source website, not the wiki) is lower than the duplicate we have on the wiki. A quick google search yields a huge amount of images that are even of a higher resolution (4K). Re: General Question on Naming Edit

I quite agree with you that in real life they probably should be officially listed individually. Just like how Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar is just one product of Hershey's. There's even some precedent here on the Wiki like how we changed Finley's Eat-In Take-Out to Finley after the confusion over other businesses with the Finley name appearing in sequels.

The problem is that we don't have any real information about these businesses. Maybe Carter only makes condensed milk, maybe Taylor only makes soap. Maybe "Carter's Condensed Milk" and "Taylor's Soap," really are the full names of those businesses. We don't know. With that in mind, and because it actually makes writing content for pages easier, I'd suggest just leaving them as is and in future writing new businesses how they're written in the game (full name and all).

Texture Files from Clash In The CloudsEdit

Have you been able to extract these files? I haven't. :( The reason I ask is that the Automatic Gentleman main image is a scan from the art book and should be removed and replaced from the one from the game files. I used a program called Riveal (http://www.rshayter.com/riveal/). It's a Java program that extracts from some Unreal Engine games. I have not run it in a long time as I don't like having Java on my computer. There are instructions on the page and there is a download section. Now, for the other issue with BioShock Infinite Achievements and Trophies, it looks like that has to do with template expanding since the added wikitext is remarkably similar to the source text of the templates used on that page. Now why that happens is the thing I'm unsure about. I didn't encounter anything when reverting and restoring the interwiki link you added. What editor do you use? The Visual Editor? Wikia's Rich text editor/classic editor? I'm using the source code editor, which didn't result in any odd behaviour. Re: Paris models Edit

How interesting. I noclipped around the game and I did not notice them actually being used. I suppose some of them were used as placeholders like the shield sign for Gaufrettes Vanille appears to be the same as the shield sign used for Fleurs de la Victoire as well as some of the other hanging street signs. I'll do another pass later on to see if they are used at all.

The menu is especially odd as quite a lot of effort went into it, but I guess it is not actually used in Paris. The menu in the Manta Ray Lounge is closed so that "La Poche du Temps" is not visible which is one of the three menu models in the game files (open, partly open, closed). I can't think of where else it might be found.

The silhouettes are already in the Behind the scenes, though it could use a note on some of the unused ones. The section is also a little unwieldy since it takes up half the page alone. Perhaps the page needs to be split.

Some other things of note that I'm not sure of the relevance. The card players in Paris use the same lighthouse cards, with sort of explains why the cards show up later in the nightmare. Not sure if it's noteworthy.

Also, Paris seems to have only one street sign which is Rue du Marché. It translates to Market Street and Booker's office just happens to show up in Paris. Perhaps it is another hint to be added or is it too vague? Perhaps Market Street will finally have that location sign that Night at the Kashmir wanted/requested some time ago. By the way, I did find the Art Deco floor decoration used in Fontaine's Department Store, behind the dummies on the second floor outside of Ladieswear and on the floor under a pedestal in Shoes. I suppose it's not quite unique to Market Street, but I guess it's not really as prominent in the department store. I remember I had a hard time finding it before since it's not a decal or model; it's literally part of the entire floor which is used to map out the level.

I also found the emblem in the dressing rooms of the Haberdashery. It's honestly a very odd place to put a symbol for Rapture. I don't really mind retaining the emblem for Market Street since it's prominently in the opening shot.

It really is in the Mask_Lincoln folder in BaS1 and not anywhere else. The model and texture files are conveniently named Lincoln_Mask and lincolnmask. Maybe they were working off an existing model to make the splicer masks correctly sized and rigged and forgot.

Regarding the removal, I believe putting the "New Discoveries" sections of enemies in individual articles of a level's specific area (in this case the Town Center's Raffle Park) is silly. The enemies you first find in the Raffle Park are already covered in, well, the Town Center level page.

Think of it like this: The Plaza of Zeal is where you first fight a Handyman. But is it necessary to add that? Not really, since the Handyman is already listed under New Enemies in the central Finkton Proper level (which the Plaza of Zeal is just a part of) article.

Buuuut you are right about the weapons section. That has more of a right to stay so I'll add it back.

Re: Splicer Infobox Image Consistency Edit

Hey man, great to hear from you. You're right that this is indeed something important to me; uniform consistency and the image quality of this Wiki are two issues that I care most about for this site. I've wondered how to fix the issue of the Infobox cover image for a while now, but haven't come up with a satisfying solution. Hopefully by pooling our thoughts and opinions on this we can break the stalemate.

Let me start off by agreeing that the concept art images should be removed from the infobox. They make the box unnecessarily long, and while the images are cool, the contrast between the finished model and concept art is jarring. Furthermore, let's say that nothing should be done for the infobox images of the BioShock 2 Multiplayer Characters (as they're great as is), and nothing can be done for the Early Splicers as they aren't characters with consistent personalities attached to a single, unique model.

Onto the main problem; you've outlined the situation concisely. The Lady Smith, Ducky, and Toasty examples are indeed nice, but replicating that kind of promotional image for the other omnipresent Splicers (Breadwinner, Baby Jane, and Dr. Grossman) would be difficult, unconvincing, and not especially exciting visually. Also, Pigskin, Rosebud, Waders, Brute, and Crawler can't be rendered in that style because they only appear in one game each.

I commissioned the current images of Buttons and Heady from JL Biggs at Digital Frontiers, and while I was obviously very grateful that he captured and shared high quality and visually dynamic images for free and on his own time, they're not exactly what we need. The figures are framed from a Medium Long Shot and they're positioned off-center. Both facts are ideal from a photography standpoint, which is JL Biggs' priority since he's an artist, but they don't really convey all the detail we need for the infobox. We need less artistic, and more informational images.

With that in mind, I'd like to suggest replicating the Jerri Blank images. I think of his pictures as "mood pieces" that convey what each Splicer is all about as fully-realized concepts. The collage of images not only show the full-body of the model, they also show a close-up of the face, some other dynamic poses, and include a quote (2 actually combined into one) to give a multi-faceted look at who the Splicer is. It was his work that inspired me to create the Appearance Images, and while my images are meant to show off the details of each model recoloring of the Splicers, his set the tone of what they're all about.

So, if we pursue this option, I'd recommend that we utilize the already-existing Jerri Blank images for Lady Smith, Ducky, Toasty, Breadwinner, Baby Jane, Dr. Grossman, Pigskin, and Rosebud. In other words, we only showcase the BioShock model versions for the first 6, and try to copy the style for Buttons, Heady, Crawler, and Brute. I adore BioShock 2, but let's be honest and admit that no one fell in love with the Shock series because of game 2. Not remaking the collages to show off the models from both versions (for the Splicers that appear in both games), will save time and effort. This would create consistency across the vast majority of the Splicer pages.

I'm not finding an exact match for the font, but it appears very similar to something called Fearless Vampire Killer.
To be honest, the collages always looked like fanart rather than anything professional looking. The tone of the subtitle captions don't seem to be an official description, take up a large amount of image space, and could be moved to the descriptive paragraph.
The collage look in the infobox appears rather squished and busy since there are so many faces (especially with the game icons covering the top portion of the image). Every other character page features a single vertical body-length shot for the infobox.
I do like the Toasty and Lady Smith images as the beginning representative image, but I am not sure how they were rendered and created. The "Before and After" could be changed to "BioShock and BioShock 2". The concept art could be moved to the actual concept art section for consistency.
Perhaps the infobox image could have one vertical body shot in even in-game lighting and a decent neutral pose. If need be, the Bioshock 1 version would be the top image of the infobox and the Bioshock 2 version would be the second one lower down.
The collages would be most helpful for the Appearance section if they were either individually uploaded or put in a consistent left to right position to match with the various descriptions. Making a collage to show different angles of the same splicer model variant could also be an option.
Though curiously it seems like Toasty, Breadwinner, and Pigskin among others are never called as such in the game and are variously called Leadhead, Thuggish etc. Regarding official merchandise, it appears the NECA figures for Brute, Lady Smith, and the Crawler are actually named. Hey, sorry for the delay in replying. Long weekend. First thing's first, I added the image for Buck Raleigh's infobox. I'm not fully happy with his picture. It's not everything I wanted the way the other images for the BioShock 2 Multiplayer Characters are, but Pauolo put in a lot of time and effort to help makes these, so it'd be a shame for the effort to go to waste, plus it was the last one needed to fill out all the combatants. It's fine.
I'm glad to get more feedback on this project from other contributors, but this may delay us from moving forward. It's a shame we can't find the exact font, but not fully unexpected. Solarmech's suggestion is a valid idea, I was already thinking of the same thing if this situation was to occur. I'm afraid UpgradeTech's concerns are a little short-sided (especially since I outlined the problem of using the other options in the paragraph above his), but I'm not willing to proceed with the Jerri Blank-inspired collages if such a dedicated and highly-regarded fellow contributor has a strong objection to the plan you and I agreed upon.
However, while I'm here, I wanted to address the most recent reply you left on my Talk. I agree completely and wholeheartedly with each of the suggestions you made from the separate collages for each game to using the non-remastered edition to adding an inspiration note in the source file. I was going to say something about the Heady and Buttons images for the Appearance section, but I know how easy it is to get distracted while working on a time-intensive project like this (that's why the last bits of my contribution to the Appearance Project still needs to be finished), so don't feel bad about it. I could indeed handle the images for BioShock 2 if you can handle the Minerva's Den exclusive Splicers.
Of course this last bit is all hypothetical. I think you should confer with UpgradeTech to see what he suggests for this project. I don't want to put in all the work needed to complete the Jerri Blank-inspired images only to not use them. If he changes his mind, we can move forward.

I got the file you're after, but the way the audio is stored in the files is a bit tricky.

There are two parts: an intro, and the loop. Of the bird variant, only the loop version exists, and its intro is a blank section of 26 seconds. I'd like to upload all files as usable as possible, so I would like to stitch all together in a proper intro-loop audio file for each rendition (there are quite a few; the original recording, one on clarinet, one by a singer with an accordion, one hummed by Sally, one hummed by Elizabeth, one whistled, one of a chorus of singers, one tweeted by the bird and one of a trio with a guitar, a violin (?) and an accordion), but I'm not sure what you need/want.

Re: Copyright Grey Area Edit

So sorry about the delayed reply, glad to be back.

You are indeed correct that this falls into a grey area that's hard to decipher conclusively. While I'm not an expert on copyright law, I think that this would, regretfully, fall into the "not okay" arena. While you make a good point that the image is out there, it's the artist who put it there. Jason Bennett has technically given us consent to use the specific image that he made available from his records, that was his deliberate action. So for us to upload a higher resolution version would transfer the liability/responsibility out of his hands and into ours, and that's a position we don't want to be in both from a copyright perspective and as a precedent to other contributors uploading images from the art books.

So that's my take on it. I'd relish the chance for someone with more experience in this field to contrast with their position, it's a shame to not have a more detailed image available, but here we are.

I took a look through the extracted files from the multiplayer maps .bsm and the ShockGame.U file. Nothing much different comes up for "Norman" or "Housewife" aside from the character models. I seem to recall there were cardboard cutouts of the characters scattered in the maps, but I can't immediately find where they are.

I don't recognize the font lettering and it doesn't feel like something that would have been meant to be put in the game unless for a very rough draft. Looking closely at the picture, the apron wrinkles around the bust are identical to the rendered model, compared with the concept art which has the wrinkles in a different direction.

It implies it is using the texture files to render. I did a reverse image search, and it appears to have come from the XNALara forums for porting by a certain o0Crofty0o back in 2010. Google Image Search only shows a tiny thumbnail, but it's recognizable.

Unfortunately, the Tomb Raider Forums have been excluded from the Wayback Machine, so we may never know that the images originally were. But, I would argue that the Mrs. Norman picture was a promotional screenshot of a port of the original model files into XNALara done by o0Crofty0o back in 2010, not found in the game. "BioShock series" page Edit

Hey there, thanks for the feedback! I incorporated the changes that you proposed, which can be viewed here. Some important things that I wanted to highlight just so you're aware:
  • I did end up making a new image that has all of the series logos, which is here. I've categorized it as best as I can but I apologize if I've made any errors while uploading it.
  • I left the board game as its own section under "Other media" as it's the only boardgame (as far as I'm aware) and thus further having it under a "Board game" section under "Other media" would be redundant, in my opinion.
  • I added Minerva's Den as its own subsection under BioShock 2, but I had the other DLC only mentioned in their respective games sections -- I figured that if the reader is more interested, they can go to the DLC page, which further leads to the individual DLCs.
Otherwise, I personally think the page looks ready to go. I'll probably toss it into the mainspace sometime early this week, and I'll also try to add links to this page where the context seems fit (i.e. instead of linking to the first game, it'll link to the series page instead). Main Page changes Edit

Hey there, I wanted to bring about a proposal to making some potentially significant changes to the Main Page. This is mostly focused on the main portal sections that also doubles as navigation for the various different subcategories within each game. While it is admittedly pretty neat and cool, quite frankly, as someone who hasn't really played the series before, it is a bit overwhelming and a bit cumbersome to navigate. Not to mention that they are a bit outdated thanks to the excess use of div tags. Not to mention a few bugs: Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4 Additionally, a more fleshed out welcome notice may be necessary for new readers.

Generally, to make navigation easier, you try to do get to the content in the least amount of clicks as possible. One of the ideas I had was either keeping the main portal, but having it then link to each game's category (i.e. Category:BioShock 2). Alternatively, instead of presenting games, the main portal could present categories, such as Category:Characters, Category:Locations, etc., accompanied with a representative image. I made a mockup of the former here. Additionally in the mockup is a welcome section that gives the reader a brief introduction of what the BioShock series is and it also links to the series page as a quick landing point for people wanting a quick overview of the series.

Now, to the main thing - despite the tone of my message so far, I want to enunciate that these aren't any sort of mandatory requirements or anything like that. They're friendly suggestions, at best. I understand how important main pages are to wikis and I can also understand any sort of apprehension that may be present towards a relatively random outsider suggesting improvements to the main page. I'm not here to impose anything, but I did want to suggest potential improvements and potential ways to implement them. The main goal is to simply make the navigation a little easier for new readers. If you want to go a completely different direction, I'm absolutely fine with that, but I do recommend some modification to the portal issue. Of course, it's up to you at the end of the day, and I'm open to all feedback and suggestions regarding this. Let me know what you think. Thanks! Brother Love and other edits Edit

Hello again and thank you for the necessary edits you made on to the additions I added to the Brother Love page. I had heard that he and the "Vox Announcer" were the same character at some point before but only discovered the audio files recently when the clip coincidentally popped up in my recommended videos. I also can't believe I had forgotten to take the Bull House Impound portion into account when noting that he can be killed by the player. With his first name also being discovered, I was also wondering if whether changing the name of the page should be considered or if it should remain how it was depicted in the subtitles?

On another note, to reflect on Andrew Ryan's trivia section, I've recently added a few similarities Zachary Comstock notably shares with two historical figures. I'm definitely be opened to rewordings granted, I'd like for it to be as concise as the aforementioned page as well as the fact that a minor detail applied from one of the figures he also technically shares with his counterpart. I hope they can be considered noteworthy and I'd be thankful if you looked it over when you had the chance. H. Re: Models and tips Edit

I noticed the missing motors in the Service Bay when I was crawling around and found the undercarriage completely smooth. The central show piece in the tube and the two other round bathyspheres in tubes have no motor in the central hub. I noclipped into the diorama displays and did find a black motor on the mermaid display and the film noir display. There is no motor on the key display. The motor is visible from outside and oddly very dark sitting in the light in the mermaid display if you go to the extreme right of the window. You can barely see the tubes going to the engine in the film noir display since most of the motor is covered up by the man. I really cranked up the in-game brightness, but it's so dark that you'd only see it if you were looking for it. Perhaps this was a last minute change considering the advertisements? Maybe they didn't look streamlined enough and the original bathysphere doesn't seem to have a propeller.

Its texture also seems to be a generic metal texture.

I have no idea what was going on with the wonky side fins in the Service Bay. And Elizabeth's naming schemes unfortunately don't line up with what the ads say.

I've been meaning to look through the clip art archive you've been posting from. It's a shame that youtube video of mugshots was taken down though the thumbnail still exists. The Diane McClintock mugshot is fascinating though no one can seem to find the source. I really do feel like Suchong is based on some sort of mugshot. His monitor looks like a photo while Ryan's looks more painterly. Though old mugshots of Asian Americans with glasses seem to be very rare.

I was slowly working through the sign images from above though Burial at Sea's file names are "unconventional". I do have some of the missing sign letters, but I can't find the textures. Unfortunately, the signs are so dark and skinny that they wouldn't show up well against the wikia's dark backing; and of course, I can't find their backing wall textures which may have been some generic piece of flooring. "The Future of Travel" sign actually did use pieces of wall in 256, 1048 size increments; perhaps the pre-built mapping pieces were easier to use than making a new model, but very hard to sort through. The Fontaine Department Store sign models for the departments were vaguely marked as dept_store_letters_1, 2, 3, 4, 5 going up to #46 which was not fun to sift through.

The wikia's image uploading system has been bugging out recently though. I can upload new versions of images fine, but new file names are causing the website to hang and take forever to upload, even across computers and browsers. Maybe it'll be faster this week.

I do use a combination of Google Image Search, TinEye, and Bing Image Search. The benefit of uploading the images is that I can do an image search without worrying that the existing wikia image is "contaminating" the search results yet. Though Google and Pinterest have this wonderful habit of showing a similar image and I have to scroll all the way down through the Pinterest board to actually find it.

Some images look to be loosely cut out and I can see traces of the original background overlooked in corners. I can just crop and repaint the background to the original color and hope Google Images will dig something up. You'd be amazed at what kind of remnants the graphic designers left behind if you look at the images really closely. I also flip images horizontally on occasion. Sometimes, I coax Google Images with keywords. I believe that's how I found one of the apple textures.

I had this post earmarked for quite some time. I have no idea where they found the original image. Though searching for the Cyrillic text with only a Latin alphabet keyboard was also fun. I suspect FIle:Atlas Propaganda Poster 02 DIFF.png may have been traced too, but that kind of pose over the shoulder thumbs up seems to be uncommon in Soviet propaganda.

I do suspect the EVE poster/Be the Envy of Rapture lady is cropped from some advertisement, but I haven't found a match yet.

For the Eadweard Muybridge images, I just looked really close at File:Clothesline_pictures_DIF.png. In the bending down picture, Elizabeth's head is a different color than the body. The body looks to be a cut out and the grain on the background doesn't match at all. I erased the background and filled it with a neutral color and the tried Google Images with some keyword seeding. After scrolling through a lot of results, I believe I came across a blurry picture from a Pinterest board which had similar lighting. A bunch more scrolling to find the actual image on Pinterest eventually gave a link to Wikimedia and the work of Eadweard Muybridge and then more scrolling through his category of "Pictures of women by Eadweard Muybridge in the USC digital library" until I found the contact sheet of photos.

Maybe the devs just looked for "Edwardian woman undressing" like how they used "Edwardian gentleman" for Fink.

I feel like the Elizabeth skipping with a book picture is also a Eadweard Muybridge photo since the wall has the same painted lines used when studying "animal locomotion". A very similar angle is even seen on the last row of the Eadweard Muybridge contact sheet. Though Elizabeth's photo looks more photoshopped than usual.   • Both of you have done some *really* great work on the wiki. About Ryan's looks more painterly Screen image. I am fairly certain it's an updated version of one from the first BioShock or it's the original image but at higher resolution/detail. When the player is leaving the Transit Hub to go to the Medical Pavilion he gets trapped outside the airlock. This is the image we see on the monitor while the Splicers are trying to break into the room Jack is in. You are correct about Suchong's image (File name: Suchong_Sized.png). That is a photograph, but I don't think it's a mugshot. (Looks recent to me). That image is the same one used for the newspaper clip in the Silver Fin Restaurant Reception Area. I was wondering why the picture looked familiar. It greatly resembles Joe McCarthy of the infamous McCarthyism and anti-Communist hysteria of the 1950s. Perhaps it could have tied into the Communist references I noted earlier. But then it raises the question of why a public figure born in 1908 would have a Tear-induced portrait in 1912. Yeah, that's definitely Joe McCarthy. I actively try to forget what that SOB looked like. As for a picture in 1912 of McCarthy in the 1950's, tears go through time. (The early version of Columbia had reality shifting all the time while it's very rare in the first game. (You can see another reality shift with the banner near the start.) It was the eyebrows for me at first. I wonder if the Chester A. Arthur portrait being painted over in the Order of the Raven has anything to do with it. The frame in the screenshot still exists in the game as part of the texture file for the prefix "WoodFrame" texture files which include the real-life paintings like Abraham Lincoln and the Battle of New Orleans and slightly battered looking ones for the "Frame" and the "GoldFrame" prefix for a lot of other paintings like the Founders and Lady Comstock.

There is another picture above Joe McCarthy's. It is REAL hard to see though. It's at about 6:20 (when Booker looks up to return fire at someone on 2nd floor). It looks a little familiar, like something from the Fraternal Order of the Raven which this place might be an early version of. There is also another painting to the left as Booker is leaving the lodge just before you see the corner of the "Amateurs at War" cover painting. I think that one might be in game. The painting above McCarthy at 6:21 is the Lincoln picture in the Montgomery Residence. The painting at 6:23 which looks to be an extraordinarily blurry man standing is another NC Wyeth painting of Stonewall Jackson which should be in the game. Main page updates, Discussions, and Wiknav Edit

Hey there, I left this message on Mainframe98's talk page, but I also wanted to include you in the discussion. I just replied to my talk page regarding the main page (link here). TL;DR of the message is I've implemented it in my sandbox.

I did have a couple of questions unrelated to the main page. One of which concerned if the wiki was open to enabling Discussions. It would essentially a place where fans of BioShock - not just editors - could converse and interact about the series. It wouldn't conflict with the wiki's already existing content, rather it would be a social extension to the wiki. Obviously, this is a bit of a different feature so I am very interested in hearing the wiki staff's opinions about this feature. If you have any questions about it, please let me know, and I can try to answer them.

My second question is regarding the wiki nav (what I call it, anyways. MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation). Namely, would you be interested in adding BioShock: The Collection into the nav? I thought of this because with the Switch version coming out this month, many readers will try to navigate to it, so having it in the wiki's navigation would probably help with that. Lincoln MaskEdit

The Lincoln mask texture is in the BaS Episode 1 files, I just checked. There doesn't seem to have been much "clean up" done with the Episodes probably because of they were rushed. There are a lot of other things left in them as well such as fragments of the original "Post Credits Booker in Rapture" story line, Columbia enemies, Undertow and MoC Bottles and even the engine of a Columbia Security Zeppelin. It looks like they ported over all of BSI's Texture files to use as a base for Rapture then removed them when they were no longer needed. But a lot of stuff got left behind as there were some textures that were not "replaced" or they just missed removing them. sm --Solarmech (talk) 13:01, May 10, 2020 (UTC)
